Using the site at all
Reading Crochet Obsessed, following a pattern from it or joining the newsletter means you are happy with what is on this page. If a line here does not work for you, write to hello@crochetobsessed.com and ask rather than guessing. Almost everything on this page has a yes hiding behind it somewhere.
The patterns are free, and they stay free
Every pattern on this site is complete on its own page and costs nothing. There is no members' area, no upgrade, no locked round. Nothing here is a sample of something you are expected to buy later, because there is nothing to buy.
What you are welcome to do
- Make as many of any pattern as you like, for yourself or for anybody else.
- Change a pattern to suit you. Different colors, a different size, your own border, a stitch swapped for one you prefer.
- Give away what you make. Presents, charity tables, a blanket for a hospital appeal, a coaster set for a neighbor.
- Sell the finished items you crochet. There is a fuller explanation of this below.
- Share a pattern by sending somebody the link to its page here.
- Show your finished work anywhere you like, including online, with or without a mention of where the pattern came from.
Selling what you make
Yes. If you crochet a throw or a set of coasters from a pattern here, the object belongs to you and you can sell it at a market stall, in a shop, at a craft fair or through your own online shop. You do not need to ask, you do not owe me a share, and you do not need a license number.
There is no cap on how many you sell either. If a cushion cover from this site turns out to be the thing your stall is known for, that is a good day for both of us.
A line saying the pattern came from Crochet Obsessed is kind and I always appreciate seeing it, but it is not a condition and nothing depends on it. What you may not do is describe the finished item as your own original design, because the design is mine even though the object is yours.
What has to stay here
The written pattern and the artwork on this site are mine. That means the following are not on the table:
- Copying the pattern text, in whole or in part, onto another website, blog, forum post or social platform.
- Translating a pattern and publishing the translation anywhere, in any language.
- Mirroring, scraping or re-hosting these pages, or turning them into a file that gets passed around.
- Selling the pattern itself, on its own or bundled with anything else, or putting it behind a paid membership.
- Feeding the pattern text or the site artwork into a product, a kit insert or a mass mailing.
- Taking the card artwork or the illustrations off this site for use somewhere else.
The rule underneath all of that is simple: link to the pattern instead of copying it. The pattern use page spells out the reasoning and tells you how to ask when your plan does not fit the list above.
What a free pattern can and cannot promise
Every pattern here comes to you as it is. Hooks vary, hands vary, and two people working the same yarn at the same hook size can still land on different measurements. Swatch first if the finished size matters to you.
The patterns are offered as they are, with no guarantee of any kind. I am not responsible for how a finished piece turns out, what you spend on yarn, or what happens to an item you made and then sold. Common sense applies too: nothing on this site is a toy pattern, and long cords on a plant hanger belong out of reach of small children and pets.
Patterns can change or be taken down
Pages get rewritten, renamed or removed as the blog changes shape. That means a link you saved may one day lead somewhere else, and there is no archive of old versions.
If a pattern matters to you, work it while it is on the shelf. What you have already made from it stays yours whatever happens to the page.
Links out and things beyond this site
Where a page mentions a yarn or a tool by name it is because I used it, not because anybody paid for the mention. There are no affiliate links on this site and nothing here earns a commission.
Asking for anything not covered here
Permissions, unusual uses, group and class requests and anything that is not obviously a yes: send it to hello@crochetobsessed.com. Say what you want to do and where it will appear. The contact page has the rest.
If these rules change
Rewrites happen on this page and take effect when they are posted. There is no notification list for terms and no version history, so if this page matters to your plans, glance at it again before you act on something you read here a year ago.
