The short version
Crochet Obsessed is a static site. Every page you load is a file that was written by hand and sits on a server exactly as it is. There is no login, no account, no shopping basket and no database of readers. The only piece of information this site ever asks you for is an email address, and only if you decide to type one into the newsletter form.
What actually gets collected
- Your email address, if you submit the newsletter form. The form on the home page and the contact page posts to a small script on this same domain. What it stores is the address you typed and the date it arrived. Nothing else is asked for and nothing else is kept.
- Your email address and message, if you write to me. That lands in an ordinary mailbox and stays there like any other email until I delete it.
That is the complete list. There is no third item.
What does not happen here
- No analytics. No traffic counter, no heat map, no session recorder. I genuinely do not know how many people read a given pattern, and I have made my peace with that.
- No advertising. No ad network, no sponsored slot, no affiliate script watching what you click.
- No tracking pixels. No social pixel, no remarketing tag, no invisible image loading from another company to note that you were here.
- No cookies set by this site. These pages do not set a cookie, and nothing here writes to your browser storage. Your browser keeps its own ordinary cache of files, which is how browsers have always worked and is not something this site controls or reads.
- No profiles. Nobody here builds a picture of you, because nothing here collects the raw material for one.
The one request that leaves this site
This has to be said plainly, because it is the single exception. The pages here use two fonts, Righteous and Mulish, and they are served by Google Fonts rather than from this domain. When a page loads, your browser sends a request to fonts.googleapis.com and then to fonts.gstatic.com to fetch those font files.
Any request your browser makes to any server carries your IP address, the browser and operating system you are using, and the address of the page that asked for the file. So Google's servers see that information when the fonts load. That is not something I can see, use or switch off from my side, and it happens on every page of this site, including this one.
If you would rather that request never went out, a font-blocking extension or a browser setting that blocks remote fonts will stop it. The site still reads perfectly well; it just falls back to the plain fonts already on your machine.
Where the newsletter address goes
It goes into a list used for exactly one purpose: telling you when a new pattern is on air. It is not sold, rented, swapped, lent or handed to a partner, because there are no partners. It is not used to build an advertising audience anywhere.
Coming off the list
Write to hello@crochetobsessed.com and ask, in any words you like. Your address comes off the list and is deleted rather than marked inactive. You do not have to explain why, and there is no exit survey waiting for you.
The same address works if you want to know whether you are on the list at all, or if you want the email you sent me deleted from my mailbox.
Children
This site is written for adults who crochet, though the patterns are perfectly safe for anyone. Nothing here is aimed at children and nothing here asks for an age, because nothing here asks for anything beyond an optional email address.
If any of this changes
If the site ever starts collecting something new, this page gets rewritten before that happens, not after, and the change is described in plain words here rather than buried in a clause. If I ever add a measurement tool of any kind, it will be named on this page with what it records.
